Hellborn Guide! How To Find & Kill The NEW Wild Target In Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hi guys, Rex here! The scorched earth event is here, and with it we got a new roaming boss AKA wild target named Hellborn. This is the second wild target in Hunt: Showdown following Rotjaw, and in this video I will show you how to locate Hellborn and walk you through the tactics for the fight itself. Let’s dive into it!

Hellborn is a wild target that is currently unique to the new map, Mammon’s Gulch. He roams various compounds on the map and will be found outside, usually on ground level but in at least one case at the top floor of a building. I say at least one, because I’ve yet to confirm all the spawn locations for hellborn, which I’ll get back to that in a bit.

When you enter Mammon’s Gulch, you can start tracking Hellborn through your dark sight. For those who are new to Hunt: Showdown, this is bound to E by default. While in dark sight, you will be able to hear a loud roar from hellborn roughly every 10 seconds, and by following the direction of the sound you’ll be able to find your way to the boss.

Hellborn can spawn in a few different areas. So far I’ve found him at the Gasworks, preston oil, kingfisher foundry, miner’s folly as well as between the mountains on top of la plata mine. On all of the mentioned locations, hellborn is found at ground level with the exception of the gasworks, where he can be found at the top of one of the large circular buildings.

Once you enter Hellborn’s area you will hear the roars from the boss even outside of dark sight. It is adviced to take it a bit slow and clear out some of the nearby AI before you engage the boss, as he is quite aggressive in his nature. The fight is split into two stages, which I’ll now walk you through:

Stage 1

The fight starts when you are spotted by Hellborn or take a shot at him. Hellborn will let out a loud roar and proceed to throw fireballs at you. In this first stage, he throws three total fireballs in each sequence, which can be dodged by running side to side. These fireballs can easily hit you if you are not careful and will char roughly 20-25 health from your health pool as well as set you on fire. This can easily lead to getting hit by even more fireballs once you try to stop the burn, or losing more health to the burn itself if you choose to move for cover instead. You can often take cover and stop the burn whilst the fireball sequence is ongoing, should you get hit. Following the fireball sequence, Hellborn will charge you and perform a hellfire barrage once near, throwing six fireballs into the air that will hit the ground at a medium distance radius around him as well as exploding and setting nearby hunters on fire. This explosion deals about the same fire damage as one of his fireballs.

Stage 2

While Hellborn does not have any enrage mechanic, the fight changes slightly once his health drops below 50%. At this point, he will throw four fireballs per sequence instead of three, which may catch you off guard if you’re not paying attention to his health pool. Once killed, hellborn drops to his knees in a death animation and is instantly banished. As with every other boss banish, the killing team regenerates all of their health bars. Upon death, hellborn drops a single bounty token which can be picked up similar to any boss boss bounty and grants 5 seconds of special dark sight, or 10 seconds if you are a solo player with the magpie trait. He will also drop a burn trait every time, such as death cheat, rampage, remedy and relentless.

Whilst most other bosses in Hunt: showdown, including the other wild target “rotjaw” have weaknesses and enrage mechanics, Hellborn does not. This makes the fight unique as it’s more of a brute force type of fight in where you can full send for maximum damage as quickly as possible. A sticky bomb will deal significant damage to hellborn, bringing his health down to 25%. The Avtomat with it’s quick fire rate and high damage will also make this fight a walk in the park. The nitro express, as with every other boss in the game deals an absurd amount of damage to hellborn. You can also kill Hellborn with melee weapons, however due to the nature of his attacks this may not be the best strategy overall. Finally, while it is possible to take shots at Hellborn with a scoped weapon from afar, I’ve not found this to be a viable strategy overall as it is both slower and hard to get good angles due to hellborn’s movement in the compounds.

Since all of Hellborn’s attacks deal fire damage and sets you on fire, it is adviced to take the salveskin trait when possible. This trait reduces fire damage and burn speed by 25%, which makes the fight a lot safer overall. On another note, since the burn speed on dead hunters has been increased with this update, the salveskin trait is going to be a solid pick overall.
