Devil’s Trail EVENT – Everything You NEED To Know In 12 Minutes! | Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hi guys, Rex here — and today we’re going through the Devil’s Trail update.

This update completely changes how information works in Hunt — with hidden extractions, scouting towers, and new ways to track enemy teams. We’re also seeing a long list of gameplay and balance changes, a new AI type, lobby invitation codes, moving targets in the shooting range, and much more, so hold on to your gamer chairs, and without further ado – let’s dive into it!

1. The Devil’s Trail

The central theme of this update is information flow and tracking.

During the Devil’s Trail event, supply points and extraction points are hidden from the map.

That means you won’t automatically know where you can resupply or where teams might leave the match.

Instead, players have to discover these locations manually or reveal them through specific mechanics.

You can reveal supply points and extraction points by:

• Finding and interacting with a Scouting Map
• Physically discovering them in the world
• Pinging them from a distance
• Or locating them using a Spyglass

Extraction points can also be revealed by:

• Picking up a bounty token
• Banishing a boss
• Or using The Chariot tarot card, which flips locked and open extracts and simultaneously reveals all extract locations.

These changes will more than likely shake up the gameplay, as the bounty team now has a slight advantage by default compared to before.

As with previous Hunt events, Devil’s Trail also introduces a new Battle Pass packed with rewards that you can unlock by progressing through the event.
This includes things like:
• Three new hunters – “The One Who Flies”, “The Cook”, and “Red Raven”
• Weapon skins, animations, profile customization options and more!

2. The Firebreather

A new enemy type called the Firebreather has been added to the game!

This monster appears among groups of grunts and has a long-range fire breath attack.

Similar to how immolators detonate when their skin is pierced, this monster releases small bursts of fire when you slash or stab it and launches a breath of fire when it’s killed.

I have to say it’s incredibly refreshing to see a new AI type in the game, and I can’t wait to see what kind of impact this new monster will have on the overall gameplay.

3. Scout Towers

Another major addition in this update is the introduction of Scout Towers.

Every mission now contains two Scout Towers, which are marked on the map from the start.

Inside Scout Towers you can find:

• A Scouting Map, which reveals all hidden supply and extraction points
• New Tarot Cards
• As well as custom ammo, weapons, and traits

Because of the scouting map, these towers offer tremendous early-game value and will more than likely become PvP hotspots. The towers also have a ladder leading up to the roof, giving you a nice vantage point where you’ll always find a scoped weapon.

4. New Tarot Cards

Two new tarot cards are being introduced with this update, allowing you to track your opponents in new ways.

4.1 The High Priestess

This tarot card reveals the direction to the closest enemy hunter.

When used, a particle effect appears in the world and a temporary compass indicator points toward the nearest enemy team.

If no hunters are remaining, the card is spent without any effect.

This means the card can be used either to actively track enemies or simply to confirm whether there are any teams left in the match.

4.2 The Pathfinder

The Pathfinder tarot card reveals all used clues on the map.

Used clues appear in red, and the information remains visible for 30 seconds.

Using another Pathfinder card while the effect is active will refresh and update the map.

This allows you to track and predict player movement based on which clues they’ve already taken.

4.3 Tarot card changes

A few existing Tarot Cards have also received small adjustments.

The World card now grants a clue reward for each boss it reveals, allowing you to trigger bonuses like the Conduit stamina buff or event rewards.
The Sun card has had its duration increased from 60 to 90 seconds.
The Magician decoy now triggers the red clue effect and boss whispers
• And finally, The Tower now deals more damage to bosses and kills wild targets with a single use, making it drastically more powerful than before.

5. Burned Convoys

A new point of interest called Burned Convoys has been added to the game.

These locations are not marked on the map by default, so players will have to discover them either by exploring or following the large plumes of smoke rising into the sky.

Burned Convoys contain a variety of rewards and always spawn the catalyst trait, making them high-risk but potentially high-reward locations during a match.

At these locations you’ll find ammo supply crates, various posters including a pledge mark poster, sealed weapons, Tarot cards and sealed traits.

6. New Trait – All Ears

A new trait called All Ears has been introduced to the game.

When equipped, it significantly changes how Dark Sight audio behaves.

The usual Dark Sight noise is reduced, making other sounds easier to distinguish while using it.

On top of that, hunter audio in your viewing direction becomes louder.

This trait can be found at Scout Towers and Burned Convoys, and it costs two pledge marks.

It’ll be very interesting to see how this trait impacts gameplay, especially in situations where you are trying to locate stealthy players.

7. Gunplay Changes

Next up, let’s talk about some of the weapon balance adjustments introduced with this update.

7.1 Compact Ammo Buff

Non-FMJ compact ammo has received a small penetration buff, allowing it to deal slightly more damage when shooting through surfaces.

On top of that, the maximum material thickness compact ammo can penetrate has also been slightly increased.

7.2 Vetterli 71 Cyclone Nerf

The Vetterli Cyclone has been adjusted after becoming very strong in recent updates.

Damage is reduced from 124 to 120.

Vertical recoil increases from 6 to 7.

And reserve ammo is reduced from 20 to 16.

Previously, the Cyclone could two-tap very consistently anywhere on the body, but with 120 damage it now requires upper-body hits to achieve reliable two-tap kills.

7.3 Mako 1895 Buff

The Mako is getting another buff with this update.

Cycle time is reduced from 1.6 to 1.35 seconds, and from 1.5 to 1.3 seconds with Iron Eye.

Reload time is also improved from 13 to 11 seconds.

7.4 Berthier 1892

The Berthier’s cycle time is reduced from 2.1 to 1.7 seconds.

Interestingly, the weapon stats previously displayed 1.7 seconds already, so this update essentially fixes the actual behavior to match the stat card.

7.5 Romero Alamo

The Romero Alamo’s reload time has been reduced significantly from 18.2 to 14 seconds. Whether that impacts the Alamo’s pick rate remains to be seen.

7.6 Haymaker

The Haymaker’s reload speed is reduced from 21.8 to 18.2 seconds.

8. Trait Spur Changes

Trait spurs are seeing a significant change with this update.

All trait spurs in the world now gradually disappear after use.

After interacting with a trait spur, a 90-second timer starts, after which the trait fades into dust and leaves a scorch mark behind.

Trait spurs now spawn less frequently, but the ones that spawn are more valuable than before.

In addition, trait spurs are now visible and audible in Dark Sight within a short radius, similar to how Remedy already works.

Meatheads and Brutes are now guaranteed to drop trait spurs when killed, and the trait pool from Meatheads has been expanded.

This means you can now actively target them for trait drops rather than hoping for good RNG.

9. Passive Tracking Changes

One of the most interesting changes in this update is the expansion of passive tracking.

Many objects in the world now visibly change state after players interact with them, allowing you to more accurately track player movement throughout the match.

• Envelopes now remain open after being used
• Ammo crates stay open
• Doors are fully closed by default, but never return to their fully closed state once opened
• Barrels now leave broken remains
• Ducks and crows leave feathers on the ground when they fly away
• Dead animals remain on the ground
• Used medical kits leave bloody rags on the ground
• Broken fences show where players vaulted
• Hunt Dollar and Blood Bond purses now open up when used
• And as previously mentioned, trait spurs leave scorch marks after disappearing

This will no doubt have a tremendous impact on gameplay and put your tracking skills to the test!

10. AI Changes

Several AI adjustments have been made with this update.

Poison damage is now more effective against many AI types, including Meatheads, Brutes, Hellhounds, Immolators and Water Devils.

Immolators remain immune to poison clouds but now deal a bit of charcoaling damage when attacking players, unless they are affected by the wet status.

Meatheads and Brutes are now more resistant to arrows and bolts, and burning AI can now damage players through contact while they are still alive.

Hellborn has also been adjusted and now always drops Death Cheat, Relentless, Rampage, or Remedy – taking Necromancer out of the equation. This means you generally get a more useful drop since most players enter matches with Necromancer already, but it also removes Hellborn as an option to regain Necromancer after using it, which is particularly impactful for solo players. Additionally, Hellborn is now more resistant to explosives, but takes more damage from water bottles.

And finally, The Butcher now reignites his hook during frenzy if it was previously extinguished.

11. Audio Improvements

Several audio improvements have been made with this update.

Footsteps on coal now create distinct clinking sounds, making them easier to identify.

The Spider’s pounce attacks now have specific audio cues.

Crows now make slightly more noise when disturbed

And vertical footstep audio inside buildings has been improved.

12. Shooting Range Improvements

The shooting range now allows players to spawn basic hunter bots as moving targets.

These bots are immortal and do not interact with players, but they allow you to practice against realistic targets rather than static dummies, which is something I know a lot of us have been wanting for ages!

The tutorial system has also been updated to use simplified hunter bots instead of mannequins.

13. UI and Lobby Improvements

Several UI improvements have also been added with this update.

You can now equip weapon skins directly from the loadout screen, without entering a separate menu.

Lobbies now support invite codes, allowing players to easily join groups, which I’m sure a lot of the console community will be particularly happy about, since you can now invite your friends across platforms. And just to be clear, cross play is not active between consoles and PC for those wondering. With this new system, multiple invitations can be sent out at the same time with lobbies being filled on a first-come first-serve basis.

The UI now distinguishes between All Hunters, which includes legendary hunters and hunters acquired through bloodline, prestige, story challenges and other sources – and Free Hunters.

And finally, the hunter roster screen has been redesigned to show empty slots more clearly.

14. Other Notable Changes

• New profile badges have been added for things like custom ammo kills, scarce weapon mastery, and various weapon variant categories.
• The Oro Gordo Mine boss compound has also received some adjustments, opening up the second floor and removing a silo to improve gameplay in this area.
• And finally, regular supply points can no longer spawn within 250 meters of each other, which is long overdue if you ask me!

Outro:

And that’s the full overview of the Devil’s Trail update.

This update introduces major changes that will no doubt have a significant impact on the overall gameplay experience.

The hidden extraction mechanics and scouting systems add more uncertainty and information control, while the passive tracking system and new Tarot cards encourage players to read the map and environment much more carefully.

I have to say I’m really excited to see Crytek adding more actual hunting to Hunt: Showdown, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out!
