Hi guys, Rex here!
If you’ve been around in the Hunt community for a while, you’re probably familiar with the head clicker.
The Officer Carbine is well known for its fast fire rate and relatively low recoil, which makes it easy to land consecutive head shots.
While the recoil of this weapon used to be nearly non-existent, it has been increased quite drastically, especially for the High Velocity ammo type, so in this video I’m putting it to the test to see if it still lives up to its nickname.
The Officer carbine is a compact ammo rifle that comes with two variants: the iron sight, and the deadeye.
Aside from regular ammo, this weapon can fire three special ammo types: High Velocity ammo, Poison ammo and Subsonic ammo.
The officer carbine excels in close to medium range encounters, but with High Velocity ammo it can be quite effective on longer ranges as well, provided you land head shots.
With regular ammo, this weapon deals 104 damage and has a 90 meter drop range, as well as a relatively low recoil.
The muzzle velocity is 360 meters per second, which is quite low.
With High Velocity ammo, the bullet speed is increased to 460 meters per second, which is quite significant considering the low base velocity, and the weapon also gains 10 meters drop range.
The downside is the High Velocity ammo drastically increases the recoil and slightly reduces damage.
Next up Poison Ammo inflicts the poison effect on impact, impairing hearing and vision, and prevents the affected player from healing for the duration of the effect.
This effect can easily be countered by an Antidote Shot, making it completely redundant.
The downside of poison ammo is the lack of penetration power, as this ammo type is unable to penetrate surfaces.
Finally, subsonic ammo slightly reduces the sound made by gunshots at the cost of greatly reduced velocity.
For this weapon you might as well be throwing bullets at the enemy instead, as the velocity will be reduced to 249 meters per second.
Jokes aside though, this ammo type is probably not recommended for this weapon.
I played both variants of the Officer Carbine over a few days, and this video features the best rounds.
I only played High Velocity ammo, as I prefer the increased bullet speed and drop range.
For my sidearm, I brought the hand crossbow with revive and choke bolts when I was playing with a team, which offers fantastic utility.
I covered this in a recent video, so I’ll leave a link to that in the description for those interested.
For solo gameplay I brought the Officer pistol with the same ammo type on both weapons, which stacks the ammo pool.
When I played the Deadeye, I generally assigned the Quartermaster trait and brought the hunting bow for a powerful close- to medum range option.
Enjoy the video, and without further ado, let’s dive into it!
After a few days of playing the Officer Carbine, I have a few thoughts I’d like to share with you.
First off, the weapon did not fail to deliver what I expected.
It’s always a blast to play, and the rush you get from landing rapid consecutive head shots never gets old.
Since the last time I played this weapon frequently the recoil has been drastically increased, especially for the High Velocity ammo, which was the only ammo type I played for this challenge.
While I found it very effective. I must admit it was quite challenging to control the recoil with rapid fire, especially for the Deadeye variant.
With high velocity ammo this weapon kicks hard, which means you have to actively correct the aim for every shot.
I noticed it was often easier to land faster shots based on muscle memory rather than trying to aim actively, or leaving ADS between shots to cancel out the recoil.
In hindsight, I probably should have given it a spin with default ammo just to see how it felt in comparison, but I’d say High Velocity ammo is a solid choice with some practice.
Overall, I got a lot of awesome kills and moments with this weapon, and it was a ton of fun to play.
I generally saw more success with the iron sight variant, likely due to the better overview when using High Velocity ammo, which made it easier to control.
With the Deadeye scope the kick feels much heavier and it’s harder to control due to the scope view, meaning you need to take your shots more carefully.
Despite the high recoil, I landed a whooping 40 head shots on the first day of playing the iron sight variant, which is probably my highest headshot count in a very long time, suggesting the Officer Carbine still lives up to its nickname.
What do YOU think of the Officer Carbine, and what is your favorite variant and ammo type for this weapon? Let me know in the comments, and until next time I’ll see you in the Bayou!
