The ONLY Silenced Sniper! Maynard Mastery | Hunt: Showdown 1896

The Maynard sniper was introduced to hunt Showdown with update 2.1.

This rifle is rather unique as it features a two-step reload with the use of a percussion cap.

The weapon got a new silenced variant with update 2.2, making it the first silenced sniper rifle in the game.

The Maynard can run regular ammo as well as three special ammo types: High Velocity ammo increases the bullet speed but has increased recoil.

Medium DumDum ammo inflicts intense bleeding on impact, but cannot penetrate surfaces.

Finally, the brand new subsonic ammo significantly reduces the noise made by any weapon that can run it. In the case of the Maynard sniper silencer this makes the shots nearly impossible to hear, at the cost of greatly reduced velocity.

I ran both Maynard sniper variants across a couple of streams.

I primarily paired it with a bow, which allowed me to cover the close to medium range as well, and this video features the best rounds.

Thoughts & Recommendations

After having played the Maynard over a couple of days, I have to say absolutely love this weapon!

The combination of very high damage and single fire makes it very satisfying to play. Each shot you land feels rewarding and it’s a great weapon to practice trigger discipline.

The weapon also has a very tight hip fire spread, which is unusual for a sniper rifle.

When you play this weapon with DumDum ammo, it effectively becomes a shotgun at close range, as the very high damage combined with intense bleeding will usually kill your opponent before they have a chance to react.

For the silenced variant, the subsonic ammo makes you very hard to detect, which makes it a perfect stealth weapon once you get used to the low velocity.

Overall, I would recommend DumDum and High Velocity ammo for the regular Maynard sniper.

For the silencer, I’ve mostly played subsonic, but I’d say any type works well.
