The ULTIMATE Hellborn Guide – How To Find & Kill The Immolator Boss (2026)

Hi guys, Rex here!
Today, we’re doing a full breakdown of one of Hunt: Showdown’s two Wild Targets: Hellborn!

In this video, I’ll show you how to locate him quickly, break down his attack patterns, and show you the best strategies to kill him fast — including the weapons and tools that absolutely shred him.

So without further ado — let’s dive into it.

1. Spawns

Hellborn is exclusive to Mammon’s Gulch and can spawn at many different locations across the map.

Every match has two bounty slots, meaning you’ll either get:
• Two regular bosses
• One boss and a sealed bounty token
• Or a boss and a Wild Target

So if you’re on Mammon’s Gulch with just one boss and no sealed bounty, Hellborn is guaranteed to be in your match.

Originally, he only had a handful of spawns, but with later updates he now has a dozen, including:

Because his spawn pool is so large, I’ve included a map on screen that shows every current Hellborn spawn location.

He appears outdoors, almost always at ground level, except for Gas Works where he can spawn on top of the southern main structure.

2. Locating Hellborn

Unlike traditional bosses, Hellborn has no boss clues and does not appear in the boss icons on your HUD until someone interacts with him.

To track him reliably, you must use Dark Sight.

Here’s how it works:

Because he can spawn in so many locations across the map, the best way to pinpoint him quickly is to use the roar direction and cross-reference it with the known spawn locations.

Once you enter the correct area, you’ll hear the roars even without Dark Sight, and you’ll typically spot him patrolling the compound.

3. Initiating The Fight

Hellborn becomes aggressive the moment he sees you or takes damage.

He’ll roar loudly before starting his attack cycle. This roar can be heard across the map, and his presence is simultaneously revealed to other players, notifying them that someone has triggered him. Note that his actual location remains hidden on the map.

Before triggering the fight, it’s a good idea to clear some nearby AI. The encounter takes place outdoors with lots of open line of sight, and AI can complicate the fight quickly if you’re not careful.

4. Attack Patterns

Hellborn has no enrage mechanic, but his move set changes slightly depending on his health. His attacks revolve around fireballs and Hellfire Barrages.

4.1 The Fireball Sequence

At full health, Hellborn launches three fireballs per cycle.

The fireballs travel quickly, deal about 25 damage, and ignite you on hit. The safest way to avoid them is to keep some distance and side-step at the right moment, or break line of sight.

If you get hit and try to extinguish the fire while exposed, you can easily get hit again, so taking cover for a moment is often safer if the fight gets out of control. Since fire damage will char your health bars, this can severely set you back and leave you vulnerable if another team is pushing in.

4.2 Hellfire Barrage

After each fireball sequence, Hellborn:

  1. Charges directly toward you, and when he gets close…
  2. He performs a Hellfire Barrage, damaging anyone near him and launching six fireballs into the air, which impact in the surrounding area.

In practice, you’ll rarely ever get hit by these at range, but you WILL get hit by the initial explosion if you don’t move out of the way!

5. The Turning Point

Hellborn doesn’t enrage like other bosses, but once his health drops below 50% he launches 4 fireballs per sequence instead of 3. This can easily catch you off guard if you’re not expecting it.

6. Weaknesses & Strategies

Unlike most bosses, Hellborn does not have any significant weaknesses. He takes decent damage from choke clouds, but his unpredictable movement often causes him to move out of them before they deal meaningful damage.

However, chokes do offer some value overall:
• They chip away at his health over time
• And they remove the burning effect from his fireballs — meaning you’ll still take the hit, but you won’t ignite on impact

Combined, these effects make chokes situationally useful, though still far less efficient than simply using high-damage weapons or explosives. In general, brute-forcing the fight with raw damage remains the most reliable strategy.

6.1 Explosives

A single Sticky Bomb brings Hellborn to ~25% HP, making it one of the best openers in the game.

A Big Dynamite Bundle will consistently one-shot Hellborn, making it the best strategy overall if you can acquire one. For this reason, I often check the armory in the northern mines if he spawns close, as you’ll often find a Big Dynamite Bundle lying on the table.

6.2 High-Damage Weapons

6.3 Melee Damage

Melee can kill Hellborn, but:

make melee rushing quite risky. He also actively dodges melee attacks, which can catch you off guard and lead to taking a ton of damage before you can bring him down.

Killing him with melee is possible, but not recommended unless you’re confident and experienced.

6.4 Sniper Rifles

Killing Hellborn from range is technically possible, but suboptimal:

7. Defensive Traits

Because Hellborn’s damage is fire-based, the Salveskin trait can be helpful. However, since the chance of spawning in on Mammon’s Gulch AND having him be there is so low, taking it specifically for this fight is usually unnecessary.

His mechanics are highly learnable, and his attacks are easy to dodge with some practice, making Salveskin optional.

8. Rewards & bounty value

When Hellborn dies:

He drops one bounty token, worth 125 Hunt Dollars before bonuses, just like any other bounty token. With kill & banish rewards, the overall yield is slightly higher.

For duos and trios, the total value is lower than for regular bosses since they get half the tokens, but for solos — thanks to the 480% bounty modifier — Hellborn typically pays around 1,000 Hunt Dollars, making him as profitable as any boss.

Hellborn always drops a burn trait, which currently includes:

Because of how powerful these traits are, his death location can absolutely be worth checking for a guaranteed free trait before leaving the match, even if you didn’t kill him!

Outro

And that’s it for this Hellborn guide! This fight appears chaotic at first, but once you understand his fireball sequences, his Hellfire Barrage timing, and how to locate him quickly with Dark Sight, the fight becomes quick and manageable.

Use explosives or high-damage weapons to burn through his health as quickly as possible, or commit to heavy melee damage if you’re feeling confident.
