Update 2.9.1 & Blood Testament Chapter 2 – Everything You NEED To Know! | Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hi guys, Rex here — and today we’re going through Update 2.9.1 and Chapter 2 of the Blood Testament event.

This update introduces a brand new Community Event called All Hallows’ Cleave, two new Tarot Cards, the brand new Long Derringer, the return of Bileweavers with a new variant, the return of Inferno, new profile customization options and more.

There are actually two different dates to keep track of here.

Update 2.9.1 is live from October 5th, while All Hallows’ Cleave and Chapter 2 begin on October 13th.

So buckle up, and let’s dive into it!

1. All Hallows’ Cleave

The centerpiece of Chapter 2 is All Hallows’ Cleave, a brand new Halloween-themed Community Event beginning on October 13th.

Similar to Make Them Bleed from Chapter 1, the entire Hunt community will work together to earn Community Event Points and progress through a series of shared milestones.

This time, however, there are five separate Stages.

As the community reaches each Stage, new rewards and gameplay additions will be unlocked for everyone.

Interestingly, the ways you can contribute Community Event Points will also change as we progress through the event.

Stage 1 unlocks The Atlas Tarot Card, while Stage 2 rewards everyone with 5,000 Hunt Dollars and 1,000 Event Points.

Stage 3 unlocks another Tarot Card called The Temperance, followed by 10,000 Hunt Dollars and 2,500 Event Points at Stage 4.

And finally, reaching Stage 5 unlocks the brand new Long Derringer.

So let’s take a closer look at the three new gameplay additions.

2. The Atlas

Stage 1 unlocks a brand new Tarot Card called The Atlas, which reveals every hidden location on the map.

This is an effect already available through the existing scouting maps and Destiny’s Dial.

Considering Supply Points, Scout Towers and Extraction Points are hidden by default, being able to bring this card in and reveal everything from the start of the match could be very impactful.

Overall, I think this card is a nice addition to the game as it could potentially enable certain strategies and playstyles such as getting an early advantage on the medical supply point for the free shots, or being the first to grab the Flame Rifle at the Firefighter Supply.

3. The Temperance

Once the community reaches Stage 3, a new Tarot Card called The Temperance becomes available.

The Temperance restores the last Trait your Hunter lost during the current mission.

And importantly, this isn’t limited to Burn Traits.

It can also restore Traits that have been stolen through Siphon.

So if another Hunter uses Siphon to steal one of your Traits, The Temperance can effectively give it back.

This creates a pretty interesting interaction with one of the main mechanics introduced in Chapter 1, and depending on how accessible these Tarot Cards are, it could make losing an important Trait significantly less punishing.

Perhaps more interesting is the synergy with Burn Traits like Necromancer, Rampage, Remedy and others, where this card effectively gives you another charge. This could be completely build defining if used strategically. A more aggressive player might bring one or two of these cards to have multiple uses of Rampage, while a solo player could potentially use it to recover Necromancer without needing to save slots for Catalyst, which would normally be granted first.

4. Long Derringer

Stage 5 introduces one of the biggest additions in Chapter 2: the brand new Long Derringer.

This is a single-shot pistol that occupies a Tool slot and fires Long Ammo.

The Long Derringer comes with one round loaded and two additional rounds in reserve.

It deals 116 damage, with a muzzle velocity of 250 meters per second and a 40-meter drop range.

So despite firing Long Ammo, this is clearly intended for relatively close-range engagements.

Perhaps the most interesting part is that, because it fires Long Ammo, this Derringer is capable of penetrating metal.

This could make it an incredibly viable backup tool for finishing off injured targets behind cover, without sacrificing one of your actual weapon slots — particularly if you’re running ammo types that lack penetration power, such as arrows or bolts, Dumdum, Poison or Incendiary Ammo.

5. Bileweavers Return

Bileweavers are also returning with Update 2.9.1, once again infesting compounds around the Bayou.

This time, a total of 20 compounds have been changed to accommodate the infestations, with even more planned for Chapter 3.

But we’re also getting a brand new variation called the Bloodweaver.

These can be identified by their red-colored bodies and spiked red egg sacs, and instead of Poison, Bloodweavers specialize in Bleeding.

Both their jumping attack and the hatching of their eggs can cause Bleeding damage, making them particularly dangerous when encountered in larger groups.

The appearance of regular Bileweaver Eggs has also been changed to better reflect their poisonous nature, while Bloodweavers receive their own red-colored variation.

6. Inferno Returns

Another major returning feature is Inferno.

For anyone who wasn’t around for previous events, Inferno is a special Wildcard Condition where large sections of the map are consumed by fire, dramatically changing visibility, sound and how you can move around the map.

Crytek plans to give Inferno a high chance of appearing during the first week, before adjusting its frequency based on player feedback.

The Firefighter Supply also returns alongside it.

Like before, these special Supply Points contain a guaranteed Flame Rifle, Tarot Cards and more.

Personally, I’m happy to see Inferno return.

It is one of the most transformative weather conditions we’ve had in Hunt, and between Inferno, Blood Moon and the new infestations, Chapter 2 will most certainly shake things up.

7. New Hunters & Profile Customization

Update 2.9.1 is also expanding Hunt’s profile customization system with a new collection of Hunter Avatars based on existing DLC Hunters.

If you already own one of the corresponding DLCs, you’ll automatically receive that Hunter’s Avatar for your profile.

We’re also getting a new DLC called The Protégée, featuring Sophie Laurent, a student of Lynch who became the second person to test her serum.

And finally, a new Blood Bond Bundle called Evil Nun introduces Sister Tabitha.

8. Cursed Kin

Update 2.9.1 also introduces a new Premium Story Challenge called Cursed Kin.

This challenge contains four Chapters with a variety of cosmetic rewards, including a new Hunter, Cousin Jed, a Combat Axe skin and equipment animation, profile customization options and a new Charm.

I think they really nailed it with the Halloween theme on this one!

9. Additional Changes

There are also a large number of bug fixes included with Update 2.9.1.

The notes I’ve received ahead of the update don’t include the complete list, so make sure to check out the full release notes once they’re available if you want to see everything that has been fixed.

Outro

And that wraps up the biggest changes coming with Update 2.9.1 and Chapter 2 of Blood Testament.

Overall, All Hallows’ Cleave looks like another interesting evolution of the community event system introduced with Update 2.9.

Keep in mind that this video reflects work-in-progress patch notes provided to me prior to the update, and things might still change before the full release.
